Our Mission

Our mission is to get books with foster care representation into the hands of kids in foster care.

Foster Book Club is a community-driven project in San Diego that help kids in foster care find their next favorite books, introduces them to stories that reflect their journeys, and organizes book collection drives for foster care advocates and organizations in San Diego.

Our team is dedicated to promoting literacy and providing positive literary experiences for children in foster care. We believe in the power of storytelling to inspire, educate, and empower these young readers. Through the magic of books, our mission is to make a difference in the lives of kids in foster care.

The founder of Foster Book Club, Nico Waters, is a foster care literacy advocate, children's book author, and former foster mom. Seeing the delightful effects that books had on the child she fostered---and noticing the challenge of finding books that are inclusive to kids in foster care---inspired her to start Foster Book Club.
